MICHIGAN (WNEM) – The Restaurant Meal Program, which provides restaurant meals to seniors and eligible food assistance recipients, has grown to over 100 restaurants in 26 counties.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) launched the program on January 1, 2021, to help Michigan residents who have difficulty preparing their own food due to age, disability, or lack of access to a kitchen.
Those participating in the Restaurant Meal Program can use their Bridge Card to purchase meals at participating restaurants. The MDHHS said the process is similar to grocery shopping.
Anyone interested in the program must meet the following participation requirements:
- Adults aged 60 and over
- Persons receiving disability or blind pensions
- Persons who receive a disability pension from a government agency due to a disability that is considered permanent
- Homeless people and their spouses
The MDHHS stated that according to Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) requirements, all group members must be eligible to participate in the Restaurant Meal Program.

To participate, restaurants must enroll in the program and be approved by federal partners at FNS before eligible participants can make purchases. Interested restaurants can contact MDHHS at [email protected] to enroll.
