Save big on National Thrift Shop Day at Kildonan MCC

Save big on National Thrift Shop Day at Kildonan MCC

Kildonan MCC at 445 Chalmers Avenue is usually a busy Saturday, but this Saturday there were even more people.

August 17 is National Thrift Store Day and Kildonan MCC is celebrating in a big way. Kildonan MCC Chief Operating Officer Lea says, “We’ll be having a clearance sale across the store, but we never have mattresses on clearance. We’ll be selling brand new mattresses at prices you can’t get any cheaper.”

All other items in the store are between 25 and 75 percent off. She says, “It’s a good day to shop and it’s only Saturday.”

In addition to even bigger savings on clothing, furniture and other items, there will be a variety of fun activities for the whole family. “We have a few food trucks running and there will be cotton candy, mini donuts, hot dogs and hamburgers in the parking lot. We encourage people to come, it’s the height of summer and a great day to get out, shop and be present in the neighborhood.”

Second hand shopping is a great way to keep things out of landfill. Lea says: “Giving things a second chance helps so many people. Second hand shopping is becoming more and more of a trend. I love it when the young people come in and pick out things from the 80s and bring them back into fashion.”

She adds, “It’s great to see all the new arrivals in Canada, and everything is affordable because there are secondhand items. At such a low price, they can furnish their whole house and get bedding and household goods. You won’t find crazy expensive items here.”

CHVN is looking forward to joining in on the fun. Mike Thom will be broadcasting live from Kildonan MCC from 12pm-3pm.
