C-Street business owner dies at 61

The owner of a bee-themed boutique on Commercial Street has died.

Soozeezbeez Honey Beetique announced the death of Susi Caregnato in a Facebook post this week. Caregnato’s obituary on GreenlawnFuneralHome.com states that the 61-year-old died on August 13 “after a brave battle with cancer.”

“She was one of a kind and we loved her so much,” the Facebook post reads. “The Bee Hive will definitely be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Check this page for updates on Friday and Saturday.”

Caregnato, a longtime vendor at regional farmers markets, opened her Soozeezbeez retail store at 200 E. Commercial St. in 2021, where she sells raw honey and over 20 flavored aromas, as well as candles, lotions and soaps made with honey and beeswax, as well as bee-themed decorations and jewelry, according to previous reports. The company’s Facebook page says the store moved to 320 E. Commercial St. last year.

Caregnato’s obituary describes her as a “radiant presence in Springfield, MO, and historic C Street.”

“Susi’s love of beekeeping and her unwavering faith in God were reflected in her every action, bringing light and joy to everyone she met. Her kindness and generosity created a legacy that will continue to inspire and encourage those who were privileged to know her,” the obituary said.

A celebration of life is planned for August 30th at 3:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
