Creative ways to use AirTags you haven’t thought of

Creative ways to use AirTags you haven’t thought of

Apple AirTags can be lifesavers when it comes to tracking down lost keys or wallets. But have you ever thought about packing one in your luggage before heading to the airport? How about stashing one in your laptop bag? The all-purpose tag is more versatile than you might think.

Generally, you need to be within Bluetooth range to find your AirTag, but you can use Apple’s Find My service to locate Apple’s tiny tracker if it’s further away, as long as it’s still within range of another Apple device. (Here’s How the Find My network works.) To do this, simply put your AirTag in “Lost” mode and you will receive a notification as soon as it is within range of the “Find My” network.

We’ve made a list of some unexpected places you can stick an AirTag so you don’t have to constantly retrace your steps. Find out more details here How to tell if an AirTag is tracking your location on Android.

Place an AirTag in your tent when hiking

If you’re setting up camp somewhere you’ve never been before, it can be useful to place an AirTag in your tent so you can easily find your campsite. For example, if you plan to hike several miles one day, you can use Find My to look up the AirTag’s last location (your tent) and get directions back to the campsite. Remember, the device needs to be within range of someone else’s device, so don’t rely on it in the wilderness. (This is also why Apple advises against using AirTags on pets.)

Put a tracker in your jacket pocket

How many times have you left your coat at a restaurant, bar or at a friend’s house? It’s easy to forget to take your jacket with you when you go out, especially when the weather is warmer than expected or your hands are full of leftover food and to-go cups.

If you know you’ll be hanging your jacket on a coat rack or the back of a chair when you arrive, put an AirTag in your bag so you know where you left it. This will help prevent yet another favorite jacket from going missing and reduce the amount of money you spend replacing it.

Store an AirTag in your luggage

Airports can be tricky to navigate, and it can get especially tricky when you’re trying to find the right baggage claim area. Sometimes you have to wait 30 minutes for your luggage to finally roll out on the conveyor belt—and sometimes it gets lost. To reduce the stress of looking for your suitcase, you can put an AirTag tracker inside so you can track its whereabouts.

This will help you find out if your luggage was left on the plane, if it’s on the baggage carousel but you haven’t found it yet, or if someone has accidentally taken your luggage. Once you’ve found out where your luggage is, you can resolve the situation and continue on to your destination.

Put a tracker in your laptop bag

Laptop bags can easily be left behind at a coffee shop when you’re getting coffee for everyone in the office, and when your hands are full and you’re distracted, wondering how to open the car door, it’s hard to remember to grab your bag from the booth you’re currently sitting in.

That’s why it’s a good idea to put an AirTag in one of your bags. This way, you can not only track your expensive laptop, but also store any confidential company or personal information you have in your bag.

Hide an AirTag on your bike

If this hasn’t happened to you, you probably know someone who has. You come home from a bike ride, go inside to get some water and something to eat, and completely forget about the bike you left outside. Or maybe you went to the store, left your bike unplugged, and when you came back, it was gone.

If you attach an AirTag to a hidden place on your bike, you can easily locate it. However, we do not recommend trying to track down your bike on your own. It is best to call the police and have them pick up your bike to avoid dangerous situations.

This method also works for your car if it’s been stolen or towed – or if you can’t remember where you parked it. However, if you have an iPhone and it’s connected to your car via Bluetooth, your phone can locate where you last left it.
