David Crockett Birthplace State Park is hosting Crockett Days this weekend (Friday through Sunday), a three-day journey into America’s past, to mark the 238th birthday of frontiersman David Crockett (born August 17, 1786).

The event will celebrate Crockett’s pioneer heritage with family-friendly activities and entertainment. Living history demonstrations will showcase life on the frontier, including blacksmithing and traditional crafts. Storytelling sessions will focus on adventure and discovery. Visitors are encouraged to wear 18th-century clothing.

The festival includes live music, including folk and bluegrass, food and craft booths, children’s activities and strolls along scenic trails.

“This is an event for all ages and it will be three great days of fun,” said park manager Joe Nowotarski. “This is a tribute to David Crockett and offers a great perspective on his life and times. Everyone is welcome.”

The festivities on Saturday begin at 9am with a flintlock shooting competition from 9:30am to 1pm and end at 5pm. Sunday opening hours are from 10am to 4pm.

Crockett was born near Limestone and moved to Lawrence County in 1817. He died at the Alamo Mission in 1836 while assisting Texans in their fight for independence from Mexico. David Crockett Birthplace State Park was declared a state park in 1973.

Located just upstream from the falls of the scenic Nolichucky River, the 105-acre park is maintained as a memorial to Crockett. The area includes an 18th-century farm, a recreated cabin, a limestone marker and exhibits at the visitor center. Nearby are the Cherokee National Forest and David Crockett’s father’s Crockett Tavern Museum in Morristown.
