Twins place Byron Buxton on injured list and recall Edouard Julien from St. Paul

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Twins will place center fielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list and have called up infielder Edouard Julien from St. Paul before beginning a four-game series against the Rangers at Globe Life Field.

Buxton left Monday’s game against the Royals at Target Field and had an MRI on Tuesday that showed no abnormalities, but he is still dealing with pain in his hip.

The former All-Star missed the final month of the 2022 season due to a strained right hip, but said Wednesday that he “doesn’t feel the same” due to his current injury.

“This is just one of those where I was ahead of the curve, if there was anything,” Buxton said. “The MRI was clean, so that’s good, and now it’s just a matter of making it feel good. One day at a time.”

Ronny Henriquez was also in the Twins’ locker room before the game, so the reliever will apparently replace starter Louie Varland on the roster. Varland suffered a 4-1 loss to the Royals on Wednesday.

Henriquez has pitched in three games for the Twins this season and has a 3.44 ERA in 34 games for the Saints this season.

Julien has played 63 games for the Twins and began the season as their starting hitter. He has a .204 batting average with seven home runs. In St. Paul, he has a .242 batting average with seven home runs in 49 games.

Buxton has played in 90 games, the fourth most in his 10-year career. He has a batting average of .275 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs.
