House of deceased villager with reverse mortgage subject to public hearing

The reverse mortgaged home of a deceased village resident was the subject of a public hearing before the Community Development District 10 Board of Directors at the SeaBreeze Recreation Center on Thursday afternoon.

Gary Russell Rinker purchased the home at 2441 Schoenfeldt St. in the village of Antrim Dells in 2014 for $299,800. He died at his home on Jan. 18 at age 79. He was a farmer and owned Rinker Trucking in Illinois before retiring.

On May 20, a complaint was filed about overgrown weeds on the property. Community Standards was able to reach one of Rinker’s daughters, who stated that her father’s estate was in probate and the house was being foreclosed on. Rinker had a reverse mortgage on the house.

The committee found that the house was not up to code. The committee granted seven days to change the code. If the code is not changed, the county will take over maintenance of the property. A $250 fine will be imposed for each change in maintenance.

District Attorney Mark Brionez stated that a lien will be placed on the property in the hopes that CDD 10 can recoup maintenance costs.
