HASTINGS, Nebraska (KSNB) – The Hastings College women’s soccer team was just selected as the defending GPAC championship champions and was ranked 17th in the preseason NAIA poll released Thursday.

Last season’s reigning national champions top the 2024 preseason coaches poll. The Patriots received 14 of 18 first-place finishes. William Carey (Miss.), who finished second last season, received the remaining four first-place finishes and began his season in second place. Spring Arbor (Mich.), Tennessee Southern and Central Methodist (Mo.) round out the top five as a new season of NAIA women’s soccer begins.

Survey methodology:

  • The survey is for promotional purposes only and has no significance or influence on the selection process for participation in the national championship.
  • A panel of head coaches representing each conference and the Continental Athletic Conference (Independents) voted on the poll.
  • The top 25 are determined by a points system based on each voter’s vote for the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each vote for first place, 29 points for second place, 28 points for third place, and so on down the list.
  • Each team’s highest and lowest ranking (no ranking is considered a low ranking) will be removed.
  • Teams that receive only one point in the vote are not considered “vote recipients.”
  • For the first preseason poll, there is no column with reference to the last time because the polls are new and the rating system is different.
