PANAMA CITY – Bay District Schools and the Bay Education Foundation announced the opening of the Adrianna Swearingen Teacher Resource Store at Rutherford High School.

This shop is designed to help new teachers set up their classrooms for the upcoming school year.

According to a press release, each new teacher will receive a $100 voucher to be redeemed in the store on the first day of their basic training.

The store offers items such as noise-cancelling headphones, digital timers, colored paper, wobble stools, fidget toys, sensory strips, bulletin board accessories, industrial-sized crayon boxes, and many other basic items.

“We know that setting up a classroom can be costly,” said Sharon Michalik, BDS communications director, in the press release. “We want to help our new teachers obtain the materials they need without incurring additional costs.”

Teachers can earn additional credits by volunteering at the store, which they can spend on classroom materials.

“Eventually we hope to open the store full time to serve all BDS teachers each month, but for now we are focused on starting small and trying to support our new teachers first and foremost,” Michalik said in the press release.

The press release states that the store “not only supports new teachers, but also ensures that all BDS teachers have access to the resources they need.”

Bryan Taylor, director of the Bay Education Foundation, encourages nonprofits and faith-based organizations to provide resources for the store.

“This is just another way the foundation is helping the teachers and students of our community,” Taylor said in the release. “We are grateful to the donors who support this effort, the volunteers who help us make this happen, and the district for our ongoing partnership to bring the ‘A’ back to Bay.”
