WTOC is partnering with Second Harvest on a food drive to help those affected by Debby

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Hundreds of people have been left homeless in our area due to flooding following Tropical Storm Debby. Now WTOC is working with local organizations to get them the help they need.

Non-perishable food and cleaning supplies for families beginning to rebuild after the historic floods in our area.

“Once we receive these donations from the stores, we bring them back to our facility and bring in volunteers to help sort and repack,” said Stephania Brown.

Stephania Brown, marketing director at Second Harvest, says donations go directly to families in need.

“Bug spray, baby wipes, anything that someone who is displaced from their home or is in their home but doesn’t have power can use very easily,” Brown said.

It’s a team effort. With WTOC, Second Harvest, Kroger, Food Lion… and now you. Donation boxes like this one can be found at your local Food Lion or Kroger grocery store.

“Every little bit helps,” Brown said.

And other organizations like the United Way of the Coastal Empire … say they are also stepping up their efforts to help affected families. Kimberly Waller, the president and CEO, stopped by today to make a donation of her own.

“The United Way of the Coastal Empire has partnered with all four of our counties to activate our Disaster Relief Fund. Every dollar raised through this fund will be returned to communities to assist households impacted by Tropical Storm Debby and related resources,” said Kimberly Waller, President and CEO of the United Way of the Coastal Empire.
