Preview: Tender Lovin’ Chix Restaurant

Marques (Ques) Johnson is ready. He and Billy Tserenbat of Billy Sushi have transformed the former Fire & Nice Ale House space to create a home base for their food truck concept featuring chicken tenders and fried rice.Tender Love Chix is a billion-dollar chicken shop,” Ques told me.

The duo started with a truck in early 2023 and took over the LynLake location in November. Since then, they’ve redesigned the space to turn it into a sleek, streamlined restaurant with an enclosed kitchen.

The space is simple and bright, with red and white throughout. There’s plenty of seating, a long bar, and plenty of TVs for watching sports. It’s a full bar, so expect cocktails, as well as wine and beer to accompany your chicken. There’s even Veuve on the menu.

More importantly, they’re breaking new ground with their food offerings. “We couldn’t do much in the truck, but with this kitchen we have more leeway,” Ques told me. “We’ll never give up Rush Hour 4 because people love it and I like to think of it as ‘Blackanese’ cuisine, where our two cultures come together.”

New chicken dishes include chicken curry (left) and basil chicken with fried egg (right). There’s also chicken teriyaki, a fried chicken sandwich with fries, and beef bulgogi over rice. There’s also a list of five different types of wings: teriyaki, soy garlic, hot & spicy, TLC Yum, and salt & pepper.

While it’s still just tendies and fries, other snacks have been added: edamame, chicken dumplings, onion rings, and, if you wish, various types of fried rice as a side dish.

While the restaurant opens, the truck will be put on hiatus. They will still be offering catering, but not out of the truck. TLC plans to open for lunch at 11am each day and close at 11pm. They will be serving some friends and family this weekend and will be ready to open on Monday!
