NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The Charleston County Department of Public Works has announced that it will hold a public meeting to gather feedback on plans for the Airport Connector Road project.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, August 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Jerry Zucker Middle School, 6401 Dorchester Road in North Charleston.
Charleston County, in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), is reportedly proposing to build a two-mile stretch of road west of I-526 to provide a new connection to Charleston International Airport. The project also includes a new interchange at I-526 and West Montague Avenue in conjunction with the widening of I-526 to be completed as part of SCDOT’s Lowcountry Corridor West project, which is expected to be completed in 2038.
From 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to view project presentations and speak directly with project team members. At 6:00 p.m., officials will give a short presentation on the purpose of the project, potential impacts, and construction timeline.
A public comment period will follow the presentation. According to a prepared statement, citizens who wish to speak must register at the registration desk near the entrance by 5:55 p.m. Each comment will be limited to two minutes.
Those who cannot attend the meeting are asked to visit the project website.
