Collective Wisdom Fantasy Premier League team unveiled

The Consensus XI is an aggregated FPL squad based on the most owned players among Elite XI: Team Reveal managers. As it represents the combined wisdom of the very best managers, it’s fair to say this is the best FPL squad you can start the season with.

Let’s take a closer look:

Goalkeeper (GK): Palaces Goalkeeper

Between the posts is Dean Henderson (£4.5m) which is currently owned by 78.6% of our Elite XI managers.

According to Opta Stats Sandbox, Crystal Palace were the fifth best defensive team last season in terms of expected goals conceded (55.64) and total shots conceded (463). He is also expected to be first choice under Glasner, who improved Crystal Palace at both ends of the pitch last season.

Backup Keeper is Hákon Valdimarsson (£4.0m) He is unlikely to be Brentford’s first choice and therefore needs to be considered as a ‘burner’ option, of which there are many. His current share is only 4.0%, limiting the risk of an early price drop.

Defender (DEF): (Pretty) tall at the back?

Just over half of Elite XI managers have decided to expand to premium defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m) as a pillar in defence. Alexander-Arnold has the double advantage of having good opening games and being dangerous in attack.

According to Opta Player Heatmaps, Alexander-Arnold is second among all players in Big Chances per 90 minutes in 2023/24. If the previous season is anything to go by, Arne Slot will use the English defender in the tried and tested role of right-back, which should provide stability from an FPL returns perspective.

As can be seen from the heatmap below, experimenting with Trent’s hybrid midfield role often saw him drop deep into his own half, a less effective use of the England international judging by his FPL results last season.

Joining it is Joško Gvardiol (£6.0m) owned by 33.6% of all FPL managers according to Live Insight. Gvardiol was an FPL points machine in the second half of last season, largely due to being deployed as a winger due to an unexpected tactical change by Pep Guardiola. If Gvardiol continues to improve this season, he could make some serious gains.

Midfielders (MID): Poorly rated midfielders?

In midfield, our Elite XI managers seem unable to defend themselves against a pricing error that is generally considered a major mistake. Christopher Nkunku (£6.5m) could be a key player in a revamped Chelsea team under Maresca. The French midfielder, who missed most of last season through injury, is expected to play a key role in Chelsea’s attack and is currently starting in 35% of Elite Managers’ squads.

Joining it is Eberechi Eze (£7.0m)is also considered a rare bargain in this season’s price scheme. With Olise leaving Palace, Eze is likely to be his team’s talisman and expectations will be high.

According to Predicted Points & Stats, Eze is expected to score 21.7 points in the first five weeks of play, making him the sixth best player in terms of predicted points and competing directly with more expensive players such as Cole Palmer (£10.5m) And Bukayo Saka (£10.0m).

Striker (FWD): 100% Elite Ownership

Every single Elite XI manager has both Erling Haaland (£15.0m) And Alexander Isak (£8.5m). This is proof of two things. Firstly, Haaland is such a strong source of points that even a record-breaking starting price cannot deter our Elite XI managers. Secondly, Isak is a clearly undervalued player alongside Nkunku.

Fantasy Premier League stats for Haaland and Isak

A quick look at the Fix Comparison Matrix tool shows why these two strikers are 100% owned by our Elite XI managers. Haaland scored over 0.9 goals per game last season. Isak is close at 0.7.

Haaland is averaging 1.9 shots per game, while Isak is averaging 1.4. Both strikers are benefiting from the changes to BPS rating, which now rewards players for shots on goal. Both strikers are more focused on scoring goals. However, there is also good news in the creative underlying stats. Both Haaland and Isak are tied at 0.15 expected assists per game and attempt around one assist per game.
