John Owen Lowe and Rob Lowe have a very playful father-son relationship.

Although his father can sometimes provoke him, John Owen told Fox News Digital that his personal and professional relationship with his father has grown since working together on the television series.

“Professionally, I would say we found a groove and understood how to deal with each other’s behavior on set. We had never experienced that before,” said John Owen.

Rob and John Owen both star in the Netflix series “Unstable.”

“I think there was less frustration in that respect,” he continued. “I don’t want to speak for him, but I will say for myself that with that kind of extra mutual respect on a professional level, there was also a certain amount of personal respect, just a modicum, just a little bit, but a lot of fun to work with. My dad is a complete idiot in the best sense of the word.”

“I think he would be delighted that I said that. He would take it as a compliment because he knows what I mean. He is not stupid, but he is a fool,” added John Owen.

John Owen now has even more “respect” for his father after working with him on their drama series for over a year – but the “Brat Pack” star still knows how to get under his 29-year-old’s skin.

John Owen said that working with their parents was an experience for all children to “go mad,” and he was no exception.

“I mean, who wouldn’t go crazy working with their parents? That’s how it is, you know? I think we can all relate to that in some way, and my father drives me crazy,” John Owen said. “He’s so annoying. Yes, I get it. He’s a loved one to many. I have unconditional love for him as my father, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say loved.”

John Owen continued: “I won’t be able to express myself in such a literal way yet, but he’s just annoying. He’s really annoying. He makes comments about my hair and the way I dress and how puffy my eyes are and why I have bags under my eyes in the morning and wants to know why I’ve been up so late and what I’ve been doing. He’s nosy and wants to know about my personal life and who I’m going out with and blah blah blah. He’s annoying.”

In the second season, the character played by John Owen says, “I’ll never have an identity of my own, and in 30 years I could win the Nobel Peace Prize and someone in the audience would say, ‘This guy got help from his father.'”

John Owen told Fox News Digital that he strongly identifies with his film character in this regard.

“I also know that a door can be opened for you, but you have to go through it.”

“That was probably one of my favorite lines of the whole show because it’s something I’ve struggled with internally my whole life,” John Owen began. “I’m grappling with that on Unstable. You know, I co-created it, executive produced it, wrote it and acted in it. And I still have these insecurities that without Rob I wouldn’t be here, which is technically true.”

He continued, “But I also know that a door can be opened for you, but you have to walk through it. The insecurities often take over. It was just very cathartic and very empowering to say that on screen because I’ve never said that out loud in my real life.”

John Owen told Fox News Digital that he could imagine himself winning an Emmy “in 15 years” and that someone in the audience would call him a “fucking Nepo baby.”

When it comes to comparing himself to Rob, John Owen says that “therapy” helped him the most during those crucial years.

“I have a healthy relationship with family and friends who I can vent to, and I think it’s also important to surround yourself with people you trust professionally and personally,” John Owen began. “I have a team around me who tell me when I deserve a compliment and when I don’t. It helps you solidify your perspective so you know how to keep a healthy head on your shoulders and not let comments upset you.”

“Rob Lowe loves being Rob Lowe. That’s the truth. He loves it and I think he would tell you that. I think because he had a good perspective on it. He didn’t take it too seriously. I have to give him and my mom credit for thinking I have a good head on my shoulders as far as the byproducts of success in the entertainment industry, like fame and, and, but it’s weird,” he said.

“Honestly, it’s weird growing up with a famous parent. It’s weird going out to dinner as a kid and people coming over and wanting a photo or an autograph, and then getting old enough that people are interested in you as a byproduct,” John Owen continued. “It’s a weird feeling sometimes, but you learn to deal with it and it’s never that serious. It’s just not that deep.”

An important part of John Owen’s childhood was that his father was known as a “heartthrob.” According to the rising star, Rob’s nickname was “what woke him up in the morning.”

“That’s what he thinks about when he goes to sleep: how he can be even more, quote-unquote, dreamy or whatever,” joked John Owen. “I think as the son of that, sometimes it’s a little haunting when you’re in middle school or high school and people are talking about your handsome dad and wanting to discuss a shirtless scene they saw of him. It’s never funny, but I know he likes it.”

The second season of “Unstable” is now streaming on Netflix.
