Getir denies allegations of unpaid rent in multiple Manhattan lawsuits

Grocery delivery app Getir, which acquired FreshDirect last year, is fighting back against allegations that it owes millions in unpaid rent on several Manhattan stores. Although several lawsuits have been filed against the Turkey-based company, Getir claims the situation is being inaccurately portrayed.

In a statement on the lawsuits, Getir said that “some of the information is outdated and does not reflect the current situation.” The company stressed that payments had already been made in previously resolved cases and that negotiations were still ongoing with some remaining landlords.

According to court documents, Getir is facing claims of nearly $4 million in unpaid rent for nine locations since 2022. In some cases, the company is alleged to have left locations before the lease term was up. One Manhattan lawsuit accuses Getir of owing more than $360,000 for a location at 114 W 26th St., while another lawsuit cites $283,000 in unpaid rent for a location on East 40th St.

However, Getir stressed that it is working to resolve outstanding disputes. While some cases, such as the one in East Harlem involving alleged unpaid rent of $1.5 million, have already been resolved, eight lawsuits are still pending. The company reiterated that it will address the issues and work with all parties involved toward a resolution.
