CLAYTON, N.Y. (WWNY) – Rosemary P. Rogers, 95, of Clayton and formerly of Thousand Island Park, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, August 7, 2024, surrounded by her family at Samaritan Medical Center.

Rosemary was born on March 24, 1929, in Clayton, NY, to Lawrence and Winnie (Garnsey) Pelow. She graduated from Clayton High School.

On September 25, 1948, she married “the boy next door,” Robert Foster Phillips, at Clayton United Methodist Church. Robert died on October 4, 1975. Rosemary later married Dr. Orin L. Rogers at TI Park Chapel on March 17, 1978; he died on August 11, 1991.

She retired as a paymaster at Clayton Manufacturing Co. after 25 years of service with the company. Rosemary then managed The Guzzle at TI Park and volunteered for 17 years at her daughter’s daycare center at Brownville/Glen Park Elementary School.

She was a member of Clayton United Methodist Church for ten years, serving as assistant financial secretary and helping to distribute newsletters. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. Rosemary enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their home on the St. Lawrence River.

She is survived by her daughter Cranda and son-in-law Geoffrey W. Burghardt, Brownville; two grandsons and their wives, Geoffrey C. and Ashley Burghardt, St. Albans, VT and Robert W. and Jennifer Burghardt, White House, TN; four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Katelyn, Carter and Ethan; and several nieces and one nephew.

Rosemary’s family would like to thank all of her caregivers over the years including Cheryl Karpel, Audrey Boname, Julia Boname, Debra Jenness, Jen Evenson and Jenna Wheeler.

A wake will be held on Thursday, August 15th from 11 a.m. to noon at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton, NY. The funeral service will begin at noon with Pastor Earl LaLone officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, according to the family’s wishes. Online condolences to Rosemary’s family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
