FBI agents search Doral auto repair shop in connection with murder plot against famous car designer

FL. – Sources told Local 10 News that FBI agents raided a Doral auto repair shop in connection with the 2019 attempted murder-for-hire investigation into a murder plot against a well-known car designer.

On Friday morning, agents were seen along with Doral police officers at the Doral Collision Center at 2091 NW 97th Ave. They remained there until the midday hours.

Sources told Local 10 News that the raid was part of a murder-for-hire investigation related to the August 27, 2019 attempted murder in southwest Miami-Dade of Alex Vega, owner of Avorza Vodka and The Auto Firm.

Vega is known nationwide as a car designer for A-list celebrities and athletes.

Vega survived the shooting. In the five years since, two more people have been arrested, convicted and sentenced: the shooter and the getaway driver.

According to a 2022 criminal complaint, James Serrano, the alleged getaway driver, and Julian Jimenez, who is accused of shooting Vega, were charged with “stalking, discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and conspiracy to use or carry a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.”

They were both sentenced to long prison terms.

Sources told Local 10 News that Friday morning’s police action relates to a man federal investigators have identified as the man who committed the murder – a competitor in the industry.

Although the name was shared with Local 10 News, we are waiting for FBI Miami to confirm the name and arrest.

In a statement, FBI Special Agent Willie J. Creech of Miami said: “I can confirm that the FBI is conducting court-ordered law enforcement activities in the vicinity of this location. As this is part of an ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time.”

Vega’s brother is also well known to news viewers in South Florida: Mike Vega, a police officer with the Miami Police Department, served as the agency’s spokesman for several years.
