An airline at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is launching a new, low-cost direct flight from the Crescent City to a popular North Carolina destination this fall.

Spirit Airlines will soon offer a direct flight from New Orleans to Charlotte, the airline confirmed Thursday afternoon.

Starting October 10, MSY will offer nonstop flights to Charlotte Douglas International Airport five times a week: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

According to the New Orleans airport website, Spirit currently offers 14 nonstop routes from MSY. While many of the direct flights are to tourist destinations – Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Miami, to name a few – the airline doesn’t offer many options in the south. Before Charlotte was added, the only destinations Spirit offered in the southern region were Atlanta, Houston and Dallas.

Travelers can book flights to Charlotte on Spirit’s website, with prices starting at just $65.

Nonstop flights at MSY

Since the end of June, at least five direct flights from various airlines have been added to New Orleans Airport.

MSY spokeswoman Erin Burns confirmed in June that American Airlines will offer daily nonstop flights from New Orleans to LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York, one of the city’s largest airports. Flights will begin on November 5.

Ahead of Super Bowl LIX, Breeze Airlines will begin nonstop service from MSY to Las Vegas on February 5, 2025, a spokesperson confirmed in July. The airline is also resuming service from New Orleans to Los Angeles. Both services will be offered six times a week.

MSY announced earlier this week that Avelo Airlines will be the newest addition to the 14 airlines currently based at the New Orleans airport. The airline will also launch a nonstop route from Crescent City to New Haven starting at $79 on November 14, 2024.
