San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport introduces new AR games for passengers

San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport Bay Area Explorer Aviation and Environmental AR Games

San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport is participating in the Bay Area Explorer 5.0 campaign, offering travelers educational AR games with a focus on aviation and environmental topics.

Oakland International Airport (OAK) in the San Francisco Bay Area is introducing innovative augmented reality games for travelers. OAK has partnered with Agents of Discovery®, an educational technology platform that gives organizations the opportunity to develop their own augmented reality experiences. This initiative is part of the Agents of Discovery Bay Area Explorer 5.0 campaign, which involves various agencies across the Bay Area.

“The team at San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport is excited to introduce this new terminal activity for passengers with Agents of Discovery,” says Craig Simon, director of aviation at the Port of Oakland“It’s a fun new way for families to spend time at our airport while also providing children with educational experiences.”

The Bay Area Explorer 5.0 campaign is currently underway and will be available through September 7. To participate, anyone can download the free Agents of Discovery mobile app and participate in “missions,” which are games available at various participating locations. Each mission offers educational “challenges” designed to teach players about local history, culture, ecosystems, and safety. The platform supports multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and French. At Oakland International Airport, users can participate in missions focused on aviation and environmental topics.

Numerous local agencies are also participating in the Bay Area Explorer 5.0 campaign, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, the National Park Service at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, Santa Clara County Parks, California State Parks at Seacliff State Beach, the Oakland Zoo, BART, Madera County, the City of Morgan Hill, Sacramento County Parks and the City of San Jose.
