NYC seeks ‘sweet spot’ for cell phone use in schools

CITYWIDE — NYC SCHOOLS seek balanced policies on student cell phone use, Mayor Eric Adams said this in an interview with JR Giddings on GMT Live’s “The Reset Talk Show” on Friday. Many parents are concerned about not being able to reach their children, “especially if something is happening at school or around school,” Giddings told the mayor. But the city is trying to balance student safety with the many distractions caused by the devices, Adams said.

“They are a major distraction from teaching. And that’s why, as I always say, we have to find the right middle ground,” he said, adding that the chancellor was working on an official statement. Public schools will open on September 5.
