Humboldt Bay firefighters extinguish early morning fire at a gas station in Eureka; minor injuries reported | Lost Coast Outpost

On August 16, 2024 at 3:40 a.m., the Humboldt Bay Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at a convenience store and gas station in the 1400 block of Broadway. The Humboldt Bay Fire Department responded with a truck, three fire engines, and an incident commander. The first fire department to arrive found thick black smoke coming from inside the convenience store. One occupant had escaped the fire before firefighters arrived on scene. The occupant had minor injuries.

Firefighters quickly went to work, extinguishing the fire, caring for the injured residents, clearing smoke from the building, and searching the building for other residents while the fire was being extinguished. There were no other injuries to civilians and no injuries to firefighters.

The building sustained minor damage. The value of salvaged building items is estimated at $400,000, and the value of salvaged building items is estimated at $3,000. Property damage is estimated at $50,000, and the loss of building items is estimated at $15,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A total of 13 firefighters and a volunteer response unit responded to the scene. HBF would also like to thank the Eureka Police Department, City Ambulance and Pacific Gas & Electric who also assisted in stabilizing the incident.

The Humboldt Bay Fire Department reminds the public to yield to emergency vehicles and avoid driving through incident scenes by taking alternate routes around the scene. This will increase safety for all drivers and emergency personnel working on the scene.
