Megyn Kelly has criticized Donald Trump for being upset about the size of the crowd at Kamala Harris’ airport rally, calling his claim that it was fake “so stupid.”

The conservative commentator accused the former president of spreading a conspiracy theory after he claimed that an image of supporters in front of Air Force Two, the vice president’s official aircraft, was generated using artificial intelligence.

This was later refuted by the photographer of the image and experts, as well as by video footage and other photos of the event, which clearly show thousands of people filling the hangar at Detroit Metro Airport.

On her radio show, Kelly said of the Republican candidate’s attacks on his Democratic rival: “So unintelligent. So stupid … He’s claiming that the crowds, the large crowds in front of (Harris’) plane and elsewhere are generated by AI, and there’s just no evidence for that.”

“That was a conspiracy theory that somebody put out there,” she continued, adding that Trump should focus more on his campaign and his policies. She shouted, “Just focus on the damn border!”

One of Kelly’s guests, Matt Welch, editor of the libertarian Reason Magazine, said Trump would fail to win over voters if he did not focus on the important issues.

“If Trump spends any more time complaining about the portrayal of crowds at Kamala Harris rallies, it will ensure his victory,” he said sarcastically. “It will give him the voters in the swing states!”

Former Fox News host Kelly also questioned how the footage could be fake when so much footage from the event was made public.

“There were all these other pictures of people who were actually there and the huge… were they all there?” she said. “Like, everyone who was there had an AI filter put on them? So stupid.”

Her comments came after she began her political talk show by reading out recent polls that showed things were “not going in the right direction for Team Trump.”

She rejected claims that this was simply due to Democrats being over-polled in the polls, arguing that this was the case “across the board.”

Supporters gathered on the tarmac in front of the hangar, with Air Force Two in the background taking part in a campaign rally with US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

“He’s fallen in polls that lean left, in polls that lean right,” she said. “That’s the reality, and the Trump team has to deal with the reality if they want to win.”

This comes after Harris is currently the frontrunner in the close race for the White House, according to one of the latest polls.

The prediction is based on average Washington Post poll numbers, which suggest the race has virtually reversed since Joe Biden was replaced by his vice president on the Democratic ballot.

Compared to July 21 – the day President Biden dropped out of the race – Harris has gained two percentage points nationally, putting her ahead of her Republican rival.

The Harris team pounced on Trump’s false accusations, claiming they were a sign of the former president’s growing desperation in the face of the Republicans’ increasing lead in the polls.

On Sunday, Trump again shared a photo of the scene, claiming on his Truth Social platform that the high-resolution image proved that Harris had “created it using artificial intelligence.”

“See, we caught them with a wrong ‘crowd,'” he posted without any evidence. “No one was there!”

Harris headquarters shared the post on X with the caption, “This is a real photo of a 15,000 person crowd at Harris-Walz in Michigan.”

Another jab was taken with the comment: “Trump still hasn’t campaigned in a swing state in over a week…Low energy?”

Fact-checking website Snopes said the Winston AI Detector determined the image was “96 percent human,” meaning it was “likely photographed by someone and not created using an AI generation tool.”

If anything, Snopes’ findings suggest that it’s possible that the lighting, shadows, or filtering (of the photo) were digitally manipulated,” but not the photo as a whole.

Spectrum News also noted: “The crowd was real, and thousands of people attended the rally, many of whom posted their own pictures and videos of the event, which was also live-streamed by dozens of news outlets and featured a number of prominent politicians.”

The report went on to say that Michigan broadcaster MLive said: “The hangar was filled with about 15,000 people, and the crowd spilled onto the tarmac.”

Getty Images photographer Andrew Harnick defended his photo, telling The Daily Beast, “It was a large crowd and the images I took that are on the Getty website reflect that.”
