When does Macy’s expect to close 150 of its department stores?

In just a few months, by the end of 2024, Macy’s announced it will close another 50 stores. And according to NJ.com, another 100 Macy’s stores will go out of business by 2026.

Why is Macy’s closing its stores again?

I was hoping that their first batch of stores would be enough to get sales back up, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Unfortunately, Macy’s CEO says the stores that have already closed and those that will close at the end of the year are closing due to “underproductivity.” The word “underproductivity” seems to mean that there are actually not enough people shopping at the department store.

The really, really big question: Is Macy’s closing stores in New Jersey?

I know you’re hoping your favorite Macy’s location in New Jersey won’t close. Well, Macy’s hasn’t mentioned if any of the 50 locations closing in New Jersey at the end of 2024 will close. It’s possible that Macy’s is safe in New Jersey.

The closest Macy’s stores are in Toms River at the Ocean County Mall and in Freehold at the Freehold Raceway Mall. In New Jersey, there are more than 20 Macy’s stores across the state. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that our Macy’s stores won’t have to close at the end of the year.
