Terminal 1 of Tocumen Airport turns 46 years old

Terminal 1 of Tocumen International Airportwhich serves Panama City, is celebrating its 46th anniversary as a key infrastructure for air traffic in the Americas.

Since its opening on 15 August 1978, the airport’s Terminal 1 (T1) has undergone major infrastructural changes; in 2006 it underwent an expansion and renovation programme aimed at modernising and improving its services.

With 33 gates, four external positions and a diverse range of commercial and gastronomic offerings, T1 is part of the airport complex that has developed over the course of its almost five decades into a modern air terminal with some of the most modern airport facilities.

Since its creation, T1 has been an important driver of the country’s economic development and, in addition to contributing to public finances, has also created direct and indirect jobs.

José Ruiz Blanco, General Director of Tocumen SA, stressed: “These 46 years have undoubtedly been a true adventure of growth. We are pleased to be part of the development of one of the most important companies in the state.”

“We thank all the professionals who have worked to make Terminal 1 a success for 46 years. We also recognize the efforts of the organizations and institutions that have been actively part of this history. Their contribution has been crucial for this airport infrastructure to reach the position it has today,” added Ruiz Blanco.
