BALDWINSVILLE, NY — A worker at a Baldwinsville fruit processing plant was hospitalized Thursday after a hydrogen gas leak occurred at the plant, fire officials said.
At 7:26 a.m., a hazardous materials response team was called to the plant at 8864 Sixty Road after workers reported feeling unwell, firefighters with the Syracuse Fire Department reported. Tests and air monitoring revealed that a battery-powered forklift was leaking hydrogen during charging.
Crews said they had cut off the power supply and limited the leak to the power plant.
Two employees were examined. One was fired and another was taken to a hospital.
