Hog Haven to open a store in Richmond in 2025

Goochland’s Hog Haven Farm is opening a Richmond location at 238 S. Pine St. for retail sales of its pork products and sandwiches.

The red, steel-clad barn in Oregon Hill was formerly home to Peddler on Pine pizzeria. Robert Staples, the owner of Hog Haven Farm, took over the space this summer and plans to open a retail store by the end of next spring.

“The previous owners were nearing retirement age and decided to retire,” Staples said. “We were looking for prep space for our farmers market. We do hot meals and breakfast sandwiches using pork from our farm in Goochland. We have a kitchen that we rent out there, but thought moving to Richmond would be better.”

The retail store will sell the pork products that Hog Haven is known for, such as ribs, bacon, pork belly and sausage. Staples says, “It’ll be kind of like a breakfast place and a place where we can sell brick and mortar sandwiches, as well as the pork that we produce and some other stuff that we’ve made in the past.”

Once Staples’ farmers market schedule calms down, he will focus his full attention on planning its opening. He said, “The farmers markets are really busy right now and we don’t have time (to work on the new space). It will be quieter in the winter, so we’ll see what we can do when we have some time again.”
