Green Bay Rockers set home run record in win over Kenosha Kingfish | WTAQ News Talk | 97.5 FM · 1360 AM

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. – The Green Bay Rockers (18-14) defeated the Kenosha Kingfish (14-20) 11-6 on a historic night that saw records fall one after the other. Mateo Matthews (Wagner) scored the team’s 77 points.th home run, breaking the Northwoods League record for most team home runs in a single season. Sam Miller (Columbia) also broke a record by hitting over 50 RBIs in the season, surpassing the previous franchise record for RBIs in a season set in 2013.

Green Bay trailed early in the game. Kenosha scored six runs in the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead. The Rockers fought back and scored their first four runs in the fourth inning to pull within two. In the sixth inning, Mateo Matthews (Wagner) added another run when he hit his seventh home run of the season. It was also the 77th.th Home run of the season for the team, a new Northwoods League record for home runs in a single season. The previous record was set by the Rochester Honkers in 2017, when they hit 76.

Later in the inning, Sam Miller (Columbia) came to bat with the bases loaded and hit a bases clearing double. He now has 52 total RBIs this season and sets a new franchise record for RBIs in a season. The previous record had stood for more than a decade. Bryant Burelson had held the previous record of 50, set in 2013.

Both records were broken in a seven-run sixth inning that gave the Rockers an 11-6 lead over the Kingfish, a score that stood until the end of the game, with Green Bay emerging victorious.

Tomorrow the team travels to Wisconsin Rapids for the first game of the final series of the season. Nicholas Graham (Faulkner) will make his second start of the season for the team. He has thrown 4.1 innings so far, allowing only two hits and striking out five batters.
