  • Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Greece lost in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games
  • He has previously admitted that he doesn’t care about material things

NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo will earn more than $48 million this season – but he obviously still appreciates a good deal, because on Saturday he was spotted in the discount section of a New York Target store.

The Bucks star, who recently returned from the Paris Olympics, was spotted shopping at a FiDi branch of the store.

And one observer even told Mail Sport that the “Greek Freak” definitely used his Target reward number when paying.

According to Spotrac, Antetokounmpo has earned more than $234 million on the court and also has endorsement deals with Nike and Google Pixel.

He has also invested in Nashville SC and the Milwaukee Brewers, among other business ventures he has put money into.

The 29-year-old grew up in extreme poverty in Athens after his parents immigrated to Greece from Nigeria.

And he makes no secret of the fact that he is more cost-conscious than many NBA stars.

“Cheap for myself, yes. I don’t care, I don’t care about the material,” he said on Serge Ibaka’s show “How hungry are you?”.

“But not to my family. When it comes to my family, I give them more than I give to myself.”

Former teammate Brandon Knight recalled in a 2014 Grantland article that the young Antetokounmpo took home “six or seven” boxes of free food from the Bucks’ players’ lounge.

He recently returned from the Olympic Games, where his country lost to Germany in the quarterfinals.

There’s also a now-famous anecdote told to Sports Illustrated: Rookie Antetokounmpo was seen running to the Bucks’ arena on game day (until a couple spotted him and gave him a ride) after wiring money to his family in Greece and realizing he’d reached his limit at the ATM.

The modest big man had to watch his Greece lose to Germany in the quarterfinals at the Olympic Games.

The Bucks open their season on October 23 against the Bucks.
