Open Heart Kitchen, a nonprofit focused on providing food assistance and other essential services to Tri-Valley residents in need, is gearing up for one of its major annual fundraising events — and has already reached a milestone at a crucial time of year for the organization.

Tickets for OHK’s upcoming Heart of the Tri-Valley gala, with proceeds benefiting the new homeless and food bank programs, have officially sold out in recent days, but officials noted that people can still contribute to the fundraiser through the silent auction, which is active online now through the gala date in early September.

“Our work is to bridge the gap between what our neighbors have and what they need most – reliable and nutritious food, shelter and support services to take the next steps in their lives,” Executive Director John Bost said in a press release ahead of the sale. “We do this by delivering on our promise to bring more accessible food resources to the Tri-Valley and create an efficient and effective support system for people experiencing crisis and homelessness.”

“Our most recent commitments to fulfill that promise include the opening of the Open Heart Food Bank, the first large-scale food distribution facility in East Alameda County, and an increase in staff support at the Vineyard Resource Center to accommodate the growing number of people using the facility,” Bost added. The Heart of the Tri-Valley Gala is planned with an “Alice in Wonderland” theme and will include a Cheshire Cat, music and the Queen of Hearts’ garden entrance. It will be held the evening of Sept. 6 at the Palm Event Center in Pleasanton. For more information about the silent auction, visit www.openheartkitchen.org/gala.
