Elizabeth Debicki on why Netflix series The Crown “ended in the right place”

Elizabeth Debicki feels The Crown “ended in the right place” with season six.

The actress, who played Princess Diana in the Emmy-winning Netflix series, recently told People Magazine that she doesn’t think the series needs more seasons.

“I think it really ended in the right place,” Debicki said. “I think it respected its own cycle in some ways.”

The Crowncreated by Peter Morgan, it followed the political rivalries and romances during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and how they shaped Britain’s second half of the 20th century. The series ran from 2016 to 2023.

“It always kind of knew where it was going, and I think you could also sense from Peter’s writing style that it understood its own ending in some ways. It’s very delicate, I think,” said the MaXXXine The actress added: “He did a great job of wrapping up such a huge journey. I don’t really like the word journey, but it was a big journey for people. If you’re going to watch six seasons of a show, you have to end it properly.”

Debicki played the mother of Prince Harry and Prince William from season five onwards, taking over the role from Emma Corrin, who played the young Diana in season four. The last two seasons revolved around the last days before Princess Diana’s fatal car accident in August 1997.

“I thought it was very respectful and I know the depth and intensity of the conversations about how the show should end was tremendous, and I thought it was really kind of delicate and elaborately done,” the actress said of the final season. “I think everyone’s performance this season is really great. I know I’m biased because it’s my show, but I think everyone has done a really incredible job.”

Debicki also received two Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in The Crownincluding the 2023 Emmy Awards and the 2024 ceremony on September 15.
