Should this kebab really cost $15? Viewers are divided

Should this kebab really cost ? Viewers are divided

A customer made headlines on TikTok when she tried to challenge two restaurant employees who charged her $15 for a pathetic takeout meal.

“This is really crazy,” said Deb (@whatsbedbackwards), who began recording her video outside Döner Station Kebab, a restaurant in Canada.

When Deb entered the restaurant, she looked for the nearest employee who could explain to her why her meal cost so much. As of Saturday, her clip had over 115,500 views.

What was wrong with the customer’s food?

To be clear, Deb got everything she ordered. Her problem, she said, was the price of the food.

“Excuse me, I just want to make sure I’m right,” she said. Then she turned to a nearby employee. “You work here, right? That was $15?”

Deb then opened a takeout box that contained a few pieces of beef and what looked like pita bread. However, two employees confirmed that she had been charged the correct amount. The employees also explained that her order was expensive because she had ordered beef and not other, cheaper protein options.

“It’s the beef, that’s why,” Deb said. “It’s expensive, yeah. (Expletive) Canada.”

Deb wrote in the accompanying video caption that she has no plans to visit the restaurant ever again.

But the restaurant fired back. In a comment under Deb’s video, the kebab shop’s TikTok account wrote: “This is totally inaccurate. You ordered a plain shashlik – no plate – and got what you wanted. You were disrespectful to the staff and were served the same as any other customer.”

In a follow-up video, Deb backtracked, claiming she wasn’t angry at the staff or the restaurant – but rather at Canada’s supposedly expensive cuisine.

I think I was completely misunderstood with that video. I wasn’t complaining about the food,” she said. “Why is everything so expensive in Canada? If they could lower the price, of course they would. This (expletive) is cheaper than Subway and it’s better.”

Viewers react

After the kebab shop spoke out on the matter and accused Debs of disrespectful behavior towards the staff, it didn’t take long for viewers to take the restaurant’s side.

“Ordering a plain kebab and complaining about it after eating it is crazy,” said one user. “The toppings are free by the way.”

“You talk to workers like that? Unbelievable actually,” added another. “I wonder how you treat others. Looks like you’re single too.”

“I think this is worth $15 but you did NOT order any toppings hoping to get more beef,” wrote a third person. “That’s not how it works baby.”

“In Canada, we don’t treat service workers like that,” said a fourth viewer.

Others, however, were more understanding. Some agreed with Deb’s assessment that the price was not justified given the amount of food she received.

“Refund immediately because no way,” wrote one woman.

“That’s a skewer of beef, should cost $8,” said another.

“If there was toppings and other stuff on it I would have been on their side but,” added a third user.
