Early Friday evening, an accident involving three vehicles occurred near Boyden, Iowa

BOYDEN, Iowa (KTIV) – A three-vehicle crash occurred on a rural road Friday evening.

On Friday, August 16, at 6:34 p.m., a one-car crash occurred on Highway 18, three-quarters of a mile east of Boyden, Iowa, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers said James Fuhrman, 37, of Sheldon, Iowa, was driving a 2014 Kia ​​Optima westbound on Highway 18 when he stopped in a construction zone to be picked up by a support vehicle.

According to authorities, 16-year-old Bielka Morales of Sheldon, Iowa, was driving a 2014 Ford Explorer westbound and stopped behind Fuhrmann.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, 17-year-old Makenna Wallin of Paullina, Iowa, was driving a 2017 Ford Explorer west of Morales on Highway 18.

The sheriff’s office says Wallin failed to stop and crashed into the rear of Morales’ vehicle. Authorities say the rear-end collision pushed Morales’ vehicle forward, where it struck Fuhrman’s vehicle.

The office says damage to the Kia Optima is estimated at $5,000, damage to the 2014 Explorer is estimated at $8,000, and damage to the 2017 Explorer is estimated at $12,000.

Sioux County officials said, “Minor injuries were reported and all involved declined further medical attention.”

According to a press release from the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Wallin was also cited for “failing to stop within a safe distance.”
