Routine traffic stops lead to arrests; Juvenile charges; Reporting attempted fraud on prospective rental property; Shoplifting and check fraud cases – Your Local News

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period August 1-8, 2024. Due to length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the final part. Please note that an arrest or indictment does not necessarily constitute a conviction.

  • Suspicious Vehicle – GW Carver – While conducting area checks, an unoccupied vehicle with lights on was observed. The owner of the vehicle was located on a probation violation warrant from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken into custody and turned over to WCSO without incident.
  • Traffic Stop – S Broad / E Washington – Brown Ford Focus impounded for no insurance. Driver was charged with no license, no insurance, and expired registration.
  • Suspicious Person – Wal-Mart DC – in reference to a named individual on site cursing at the manager, demanding a job, and wandering around the parking lot. He was arrested and taken to jail without incident.
  • Traffic Stop – E Spring St at N Hammond Drive. A female was stopped for multiple moving
    violations. She was accused of not staying in her lane, not using her turn signal, driving too fast and
    Possession of marijuana. THC vaporizer and pipe were found during the probable crime scene
    seek.
  • Damage to Property – Landers St. – Regarding a previous tenant damaging the floors and property in the apartment. Report taken, civil action recommended.
  • Illegal Parking – Aycock Ave. – Six illegally parked tractor trailers were removed from the roadway. Verbal warnings issued.
  • Traffic Stop/DUI – W. Spring St. At Home Depot – Traffic stop regarding loud music and the GA
    Hands-free speech law. The traffic stop turned into a drunk driving offense.
  • Dispute – Magnolia Ter. – In reference to a dispute between mother and son over food and breaking down the back door, insufficient probable cause to file charges. Report entered.
  • Violation of a temporary protection order – Carwood Drive because the complainant had questions regarding a trespass order issued against an individual.
  • Traffic Stop – East Spring/The Fish – The named male offender was taken into custody on an Oglethorpe County warrant.
  • Agency Assistance – Green St / Perry St – Georgia State Patrol had a driver flee the scene of a traffic stop on foot. Tracking dogs attempted to pursue the subject but were unable to locate him. The suspect was later identified by GSP.
  • Dispute/Civil – Sweetgum Dr – Regarding the plaintiffs’ request that their sons’ girlfriend not be on site. All parties have been notified of remedial action.
    Harassing Calls – Bridgeport Pl. Regarding the subject posting a trespassing offense on social media, the complainant was contacted about it by a mutual friend. Remedial action recommended.
  • Shoplifting – West Spring St. in reference to a juvenile who shoplifted twice last week. The juvenile was identified and a report was filed against him.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – Highway 78 & Aycock Ave – Regarding an abandoned vehicle on the side of the road. The vehicle had a warning notice/sticker posted for being unattended on a highway for over 24 hours.
  • Shoplifting – West Spring Street – In reference to a white female concealing items in her purse. The subject was criminally removed from the scene of the occurrence.
  • Fraud Report – Spruce Ln. – In respect of complainant who suspects that an individual has unsuccessfully attempted to defraud him regarding a rental application fee and that others may be defrauded in the future. Report entered.
  • Missing Person – N Broad St and City Hall – In reference to a previous BOLO for a missing person, last seen at 4:00 am in McDonough. The person is suffering from dementia and other health issues. She was contacted and released to a family friend who was actively searching for her.
  • Juvenile Complaint – Ash Ln./W Creek Cir. – Regarding juvenile riding a dirt bike. Contact was made with the offender and his parents; they were advised to park the motorcycle in the yard.
  • Traffic Stop/Arrest – Carwood Dr: Suspect arrested for possession of meth, tampering with evidence,
    and seat belt violation following a traffic stop during which he attempted to throw meth out the window of his truck.
  • Burglary in Progress – Regarding a male caller who heard something breaking into his residence. He lives alone and is blind. He was contacted and his residence was evacuated. The noise appeared to be from a wall mounted air freshener falling and hitting the floor. All was well on scene.
  • Suspicious Persons – S Madison / Mears Street – In reference to an officer stopped for two individuals spray painting graffiti on rail cars. Area check on foot with negative contact with the individuals. Some graffiti was found on the rail cars. Report taken.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – Cherry Hill Road – Regarding a semi-truck parked on the road. The driver was contacted and directed to the nearest parking area.
  • Traffic Stop/Arrest – Hwy 78/W Spring St. – Male subject was stopped for equipment violation. He was found to be driving with a suspended license and no insurance. He also had warrants out of Arkansas, but they were only authorized for pickup in the US. He was transported to MPD and released on a copy of the summons.
  • Traffic Stop/Juvenile Complaint – Etten Dr & Armistead Circle – The offender was stopped for his passenger hanging out the passenger window while driving. The offender did not have a valid driver’s license. Both parties were minors. Both individuals were cited and released to the offender’s mother.
  • Theft – N Broad; Waffle House – In reference to a customer who left with food without paying. Waffle House was simply trying to get the man to pay for his food and commit trespassing. No contact was made with the male suspect.
  • Lost Item – W Spring Street @ Walmart – Regarding the plaintiff leaving her wallet in the parking lot. It was later discovered that someone had begun using her debit card. The plaintiff was advised to cancel all of her cards. Footage of her leaving the purse was captured by bodycam footage, however a suspect could not be identified at the time. Report taken and forwarded to Criminal Investigation.
  • Fraud – S Broad St; Johns – Call regarding several people cashing fraudulent checks over the past few months. Reports taken
  • Warrant/Arrest – Sorrells St. – Female subject on scene with a valid warrant for theft from WCSO. She was taken into custody and transported to WCSO without incident.
  • Suspicious Person – Felker St. @ E. Spring St. – The offender was walking in the middle of the roadway, advised to stay to the curb in areas without sidewalks.
  • Theft Report – E. Spring St.; Spring St. Laundry – A report was taken and forwarded to Criminal Investigation regarding two persons stealing a laundry basket within the last day.
  • Trespassing – Tanglewood Ln. In reference to the individual being on site without permission. Plaintiff requested that the individual leave the property. The individual was escorted off the property without incident.
  • Suspicious Person – Breedlove Dr.; First Presbyterian Church. Regarding the individual on scene after being dropped off and wanting an escort to her grandmother’s residence somewhere in the county. The individual was evaluated by EMS for a small laceration on the right side of the head and transported to Piedmont-Walton.
