Swansea City’s recruitment efforts may not be limited to players this summer.

The Championship club may also be on the lookout for an interpreter or two to ensure head coach Luke Williams can convey his message to his newly formed team.

Swansea used a Portuguese speaker to explain to Ronald what was required of him after the Brazilian winger moved to Wales last January.

The Swans have since added Portuguese midfielder Goncalo Franco to their squad, as well as Slovenian striker Zan Vipotnik and South Korean attacking midfielder Eom Ji-Sung.

Although the new recruits understand some English, “a lot of body language” was used on the training ground during preseason, says Williams.

“We get our message across – Google Translate is an incredibly great tool,” he said with a smile.

“Josh Key speaks a little Korean – he’s incredible.

“Ronald is happy because he has a Portuguese-speaking teammate. He and Goncalo help each other a lot.”

Swansea’s other summer signing, Lawrence Vigouroux, has represented Chile internationally.

The goalkeeper was born and raised in London, but according to Williams, he “speaks four languages really badly.”

“I’ve worked with Lawrence before and we nicknamed him ‘the glue’ because he can walk into the dining room and sit down next to any person and whoever sits next to him ends up laughing,” Williams said.

“It could be people you’ve never seen laughing before, throwing their heads back. Then the next day he’s sitting with another person and they’re laughing.

“Lawrence can communicate with virtually anyone in the world, whether they speak the language or are just joking.

“But we are also thinking about getting help in the form of translators.”

Vigouroux will start in goal against Middlesbrough on Saturday, with Eom and Franco also expected to make their debuts.

Striker Vipotnik is expected to start on the bench as he only arrived in Wales this week.
