Check out these survey results on Walmart’s expansion in Squamish

The Squamish Chief surveyed 344 readers and asked: Do you want to see Squamish Walmart become a Supercenter?

The Squamish Chief surveyed 344 readers and asked the question: Do you want Squamish Walmart to become a Supercenter?

The store opened in 2006 at 39210 Discovery Way in the city after committing to not selling perishable goods such as fresh meat, fish or fruits and vegetables.

However, the company has now applied for a land use change to remove these restrictions on the sale of fresh produce.

According to the municipality, no date has been set for when Walmart’s applications will be presented to the council, nor has there been any feedback from the public.

The poll ran from August 7, 2024 to August 24, 2024. Of the 344 votes, we can see that 147 came from the community. The full results are as follows:

Yes 72.79% local, 64.53% total

NO 20.41% local, 27.33% total

Perhaps 6.80% local, 8.14% total

The results are based on an online survey of adult Squamish Chief readers. The margin of error – a measure of sample variability – is +/- 5.24% in 19 out of 20 cases.

The Squamish Chief uses a variety of techniques to collect data, detect and prevent fraudulent votes, detect and prevent robots, and filter out non-local and duplicate votes.
