Costco’s prepackaged salads were recalled due to incorrect labeling – now the recall is being made more severe. Attention people with soy and almond allergies.

The Food and Drug Administration recalled about 1,000 prepackaged salads in early July. According to MassLive, that recall has now been classified as a Class I recall.

This means it can cause serious health damage or death. The other categories, Class II and Class III, indicate that only minor and temporary health damage may occur after consumption and that consumption of the recalled product is not likely to cause health damage, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The grain-celery salads were recalled because they were incorrectly labeled as grain-vegetable salads. This mislabeling could mean that the salads contained soy and almonds, which were not declared on the packaging. Therefore, there is a risk that people who are severely allergic to any of these ingredients may unknowingly consume them.

These mislabeled salads may have been distributed in 16 states, including California, Nevada, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida and Georgia.
