Citizens join forces against single-use plastic

Dehradun: The Efforts from Resident eliminate Single-use plastic from the streets of Dehradun are gaining momentum, with individuals and social organizations at the grassroots level working to create a plastic-free environment in the city.
A plastic collection drive was organised at the GPO and CDO offices in Dehradun on Saturday morning. “More than 160 plastic containers have been set up across Dehradun. We not only involve students, postmen and ground staff in garbage disposal but also collect the garbage from their immediate surroundings and dispose of it in the containers,” said Anoop Nautiyal, founder of SDC Foundation. Despite the ban on single-use plastic products in place for two years, plastic bags are still widely used in Dehradun, local residents said. They have approached senior officials of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation to penalise customers and vendors who use plastic bags in the hope of bringing about a permanent change.

Shana Wall, a 50-year-old actress, suffered serious injuries after ingesting plastic particles from a drink on an American Airlines flight from JFK to Rome. She has filed a lawsuit against the airline for failing to provide uncontaminated food and drinks. Wall’s injuries required medical attention and she was bedridden. She can be seen on her social media following the incident in Italy.
