Dozier’s Barbecue and Meat Market will reopen on Tuesday, August 20.

FULSHEAR, TX (Reporting from Katy News) – Fulshear’s popular Dozier’s Barbecue and Meat Market is scheduled to reopen this week under new management after closing on March 30, 2024.

Tyler Risinger, the great-grandson of the original owner, has teamed up with longtime friend Keith Brochhausen to revive the restaurant.

“We had a soft opening event on Friday and Saturday,” Risinger said. “We sold out both days and will officially open on Tuesday, with the Meat Market opening on Wednesday.”

The new opening hours are daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Some of the recipes date back to 1957,” he said.

Ed Dozier, Risinger’s great-grandfather, opened the restaurant in 1957 and won first place in the first Houston Livestock and Rodeo Bar-B-Que Contest.

“We use the same recipe that won the rodeo competition in Houston,” Risinger said.

Read why the former owners of Dozier’s closed the business after 67 years.

When the business closed earlier this year, it was under a different owner. Risinger noted that although Ed Dozier founded the restaurant in 1957, it was eventually sold to non-family members who changed various aspects, including the recipes.

Risinger is planning some changes, but assures that these will not affect the recipes.

“A salad bar will be added,” he said. “We’re also introducing patio entertainment starting August 30.”

The meat market offers popular classics such as the “Presidential Bacon”, which President George HW Bush loved so much and who regularly had this bacon delivered to the White House.

Customer service is our highest priority.

“We cut the meat to order,” Risinger said.

He admitted that the reopening of the traditional family business was an emotional experience at the unofficial opening on Friday.

“It was very exciting. This has been my dream since I was eight years old.”

Dozier’s is the second vintage restaurant Risinger has revived, his first project being 2 M’s Malt N Burger Mart at 2014 Avenue H in Rosenberg.

Katy visited the Vintage Burger Shop on Saturday. The trip to Rosenberg was worth it. Two of us ordered the Bacon Cheese Jalapeno Burger and the Bacon Cheeseburger. The Big Daddy Burger sounded tempting, but consisted of three beef patties – which required more appetite than either of us could muster.
