UPDATE: At least three people were injured in a shooting in Spring Hill, Florida on Sunday. A “person of interest” is now in custody. According to a Hernando County official, the incident began when a person opened fire on a car with five occupants near the Mariner Cay Apartments. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and eventually came to a stop in the Publix parking lot at the Mariner Commons Shopping Center. Three of the five occupants were shot and are currently being treated at a local hospital. Their conditions are still unknown. Authorities later identified and arrested a “person of interest” in connection with the shooting.

A shooting was reported near the Publix grocery store at Mariner Commons in Spring Hill, Florida. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that the incident may have occurred at either the Mariner Cay Apartments or the Mariner Commons Shopping Center.

“MARINER CAY APARTMENTS/MARINER COMMONS – MARINER BOULEVARD/NORTHCLIFFE BOULEVARD – SPRING HILL

Officers are currently investigating a shooting that occurred at one or both of these locations. THE PUBLIC IS ASKED TO STAY INSIDE THE HOUSES AND STAY AWAY FROM THE AREA AS THE CRIME SCENE IS STILL ACTIVE. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available from investigators on the scene,” police said.

It is currently unclear whether there are any victims.

Several witnesses reported the incident on social media.

“Shooting near Publix near Mariner Commons. I just left that store about an hour ago,” one person wrote on Facebook.

Another reported: “We live right behind the apartments and I literally grabbed my son and ducked, it was so close and loud. Like 10 shots. It was so scary and crazy.”

No information about the suspect has been released so far.
