The Patriots and Panthers reignite their rivalry Thursday night to kick off the first full week of the NFL preseason. Both franchises are in interesting situations, with new head coaches and young quarterbacks they hope can make them a postseason contender again.

Although he won’t be in the starting lineup, Drake Maye, selected with the No. 3 overall pick, will make his first professional appearance on Thursday night. Bryce Young, the 2023 first-round pick, will not play on Thursday night.

Each team has some young talent on both sides of the ball that should make things pretty interesting in Foxboro. Most notable are wideouts Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker for New England and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders for the Panthers.

Jerod Mayo and Dave Canales are also in the spotlight in their first stint as NFL head coaches.
