Habitat is looking for books, CDs and other donations for the sale of used books

CHAMBERSBURG — Habitat for Humanity, which has built 56 homes in Franklin County to date, will partner with St. John’s United Church of Christ again to host a used book sale in late October, according to Habitat Director Mark Story. The sale, with proceeds benefiting Habitat projects, is sponsored by BCM Payroll Services.

Book and other donations will be collected from September 3rd to October 12th. There are four ways to drop off donations. The groups are looking for new and used books of all kinds, including paperbacks, but also artwork, CDs, DVDs, sheet music, audiobooks on CDs, puzzles and board games.

Habitat politely declines textbooks, encyclopedias, musty books, cassette tapes and VHS videos, Story said.

You can donate in the following four ways:

– At all Patriot Federal Credit Union lobby branches in Franklin County.

— At St. John’s United Church of Christ, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The church is located at 1811 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg.

– At the Habitat ReStore donation center, 1662 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg, Wednesday through Saturday during regular store hours.

–In bulk by contacting Harold Collier at (email protected) or 717-263-8593. Large donations should be boxed.

All donations must be received by October 12th. The sale will take place over three days at St. John’s UCC: Friday, October 25th, 2-8pm, Saturday, October 26th, 9am-5pm, and Sunday, October 26th, 12-4pm.

Story noted that this is a volunteer-led initiative and all proceeds will go toward building the next Habitat home in Franklin County.

“After the success of our previous sales, we are excited to offer this opportunity to the community again,” Story continued. “We especially thank the leadership of St. John’s Church for providing the sales space, BCM Payroll Services for their generous sponsorship, and Patriot Federal Credit Union for opening their foyers to donations that made the sale possible.”

Habitat of Franklin County was founded in 1994 and volunteers worked with local families to build the 56 homes, Story said, helping to realize Habitat’s vision of a “world where everyone has a decent place to live,” Story said.
