Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), welcomed General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Vietnamese President To Lam at Beijing airport on Sunday.

At the invitation of the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Lam will make a state visit to China from August 18 to 20.

He arrived in Beijing on Sunday evening after a brief stopover in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou earlier in the day, making China the first country he has visited since taking office as general secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee earlier this month.

Senior Chinese officials, including Wang, welcomed Lam at the airport, where the friendship song “Vietnam-China” by a Vietnamese composer was played as a sign of the long-standing friendship between the two countries.

Xi held a welcoming ceremony for Lam in Beijing on Monday morning before the two leaders held talks.

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chinese President Xi Jinping and the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Vietnamese President To Lam will attend the signing ceremony of the cooperation documents in Beijing on Monday.

Lam arrived in Beijing on Sunday to continue his state visit to China, after a brief stopover in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou earlier the same day.

Lam has been Vietnam’s president since May 2024. Earlier this month, he was elected Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, but continues to serve as Vietnam’s president.

The trip is his first state visit to China as Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Vietnamese President.
