MOUNT LAUREL – After six years of vacancy, demolition of a former Mexican restaurant has been approved, setting the stage for its replacement.

The former Don Pablo’s will make way for the construction of a 9,000-square-foot Lazy Dog restaurant, which will feature the chain’s signature patio and fieldstone-adorned tower.

On August 8, the Planning Board approved the project at the site where Don Pablo’s closed in 2018.

This will be the first New Jersey location for Lazy Dog, a California-based chain with over 45 locations.

The Rocky Mountain-style restaurants focus on “creative, home-cooked cuisine” and “diverse American dishes served in a warm, vibrant and modern-rustic atmosphere,” the company’s website states.

The restaurant has about 190 seats inside and space for another 60 people on the terrace.

According to the website, the opening is planned for next year.

True to its name, the restaurant allows guests to dine on the terrace with dogs on a leash. The dogs must abide by the restaurant’s rules, which do not allow dogs on the table, chair or lap.

Another rule of Lazy Dog: Avoid the “three Bs” – begging, barking and biting.”
