Three teenagers charged after break-in at Hudson tobacco shop

HUDSON – Three juveniles are facing charges in connection with an apparent burglary at a Washington Street tobacco shop over the weekend.

In a news release, police said they responded to a burglary alarm at DAB Smoke Shop, 234 Washington St. (Route 85), at 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, officers found the front entrance of the store smashed.

Police Chief Richard DiPersio said an investigation at the scene revealed that a vehicle likely backed into the store’s driveway.

The suspects fled, and Hudson Police sent an alert to other departments in the area asking them to be on the lookout for a vehicle that had suspected damage consistent with being backed through a store driveway.

A Marlborough Police officer radioed that he observed a vehicle with damage consistent with the reported damage, the release said. The Marlborough officer and a Massachusetts police officer stopped the vehicle.

The suspects were identified as a 15-year-old boy from Boston, a 16-year-old boy from Quincy and a 17-year-old boy from Danvers.. The trio were arrested after police said they found goods suspected to have been stolen from the tobacco shop.

The vehicle was impounded, the press release said. Two suspects were released on bail and the third was released to his guardians. All will be arraigned in Framingham Juvenile Court in the next few days.

“This is an example of strong policing and is intended to send the message that break-ins and thefts will not be tolerated at our local businesses,” DiPersio said in a statement. “We have excellent relationships with our neighboring agencies and that teamwork was clearly on display early Saturday morning.”
