Co-op opens new convenience store in Cardiff, UK

The British cooperative Co-op has opened its new supermarket in the revitalized Dumballs Road residential area in Cardiff, Wales.

The store has a wide range of offerings, including a Costa Coffee Express and its own bakery, with a focus on fresh, healthy products and everyday essentials.

The Cardiff store is geared towards the needs of the community, offering meal ideas, takeaways and dining deals.

It also offers a selection of fair trade products, flowers, chilled beers and award-winning wines.

For those with special dietary preferences, the store also offers vegan and plant-based options with no added foods.

To adapt to modern shopping habits, Co-op has partnered with Deliveroo to offer online home delivery of groceries.

This service ensures that groceries are picked up fresh from the local store and delivered quickly within the community.

In addition, customers can use the convenient parcel collection via an InPost locker.

In line with its commitment to sustainability and local sourcing, all fresh and frozen meat and poultry, even in ready meals and sandwiches, are 100% sourced from British farmers and producers.

The store also has a soft plastic recycling unit where the community can recycle things like crisp packets and bread bags, helping Co-op meet its aim of ensuring all of its own-brand food packaging is recyclable.

The new store covers 237 m² and is operated as a co-op franchise.

This follows the successful opening of other Universal Retail Group Co-op stores in Wales earlier this year.

Co-op store manager Ieuan Feeley said: “The whole team is excited about the opportunity to open the newest Co-op store in Wales – we look forward to welcoming our members and customers to their brand new Co-op. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we have worked to develop the range, choice and additional services to create a compelling offer that will enable us to conveniently serve our community.”

In July 2024, Co-op announced the opening of a new store in Parbold, West Lancashire, and the reopening of a store in Killay, Swansea, after refurbishment.
