The Epic Games Store has arrived on iOS in the EU

The Epic Games Store has arrived on iOS in the EU

Since the big debacle between Apple and Epic Games a few years ago, the Fortnite maker hasn’t really had a presence on Apple’s iOS platform. Thanks to the rules issued by the EU, this is set to change over the course of this year. After years of dispute, the Epic Games Store is now finally officially available on iOS devices – at least in the EU.

The announcement is made on her blogthe team at Epic Games shared the following: “Today, the Epic Games Store is available for download on iPhones in the European Union and Android devices worldwide. The store launches with Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and the all-new Fall Guys on mobile, and we’re working to give all developers the ability to publish their games and apps through the Epic Games Store in the future. We’re also bringing our games to independent mobile stores today, including AltStore PAL.”

Explanation why only iOS users from the EU can access the Store. Epic sequel“Thanks to the Digital Markets Act, we’re launching on iOS devices in the European Union, but Apple continues to block all other iOS users outside Europe from accessing Fortnite and the Epic Games Store for iOS.”

Not surprisingly, the Epic Games Store app is not available in standard mobile app stores. Epic stated that “Currently, the Epic Games Store takes a long time to install on iOS and Android because Apple and Google intentionally introduce inferior installation experiences that involve multiple steps, confusing device settings, and scare screens. We continue to fight in court and work with regulators around the world to remove the anti-competitive terms Apple and Google impose on developers and consumers so we can build a better store for everyone.”

Bringing Fortnite back to iOS is certainly a big deal, but with only three games currently available on the app, Epic has a lot more work to do to become a serious and competitive mobile app store.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the announcement? Will you be downloading the storefront? What kind of games would you like to see in the EGS for mobile? Let us know below.
