Gibraltar launches solar tender for airport – pv magazine International

The Government of Gibraltar has launched a tender for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a solar panel plant at Gibraltar International Airport.

The plant will be built on the south-eastern runway of the airport. The electricity will be sold to the Gibraltar Electricity Authority under a power purchase agreement.

The government’s website states that the contract will be awarded to the most economically advantageous tender in view of the criteria set out in the tender documents.

Further information on the UK government website indicates that the contract will begin in December 2024, run for 20 years and is worth GBP 5 million (USD 6.5 million). The application deadline is September 20th.

Since the beginning of the year, airports in Dublin and New York, among others, have announced the construction of solar plants on their premises.
