UK-based digital bank Revolut has launched “Homes” – a holiday home rental feature with cashback for travel services – as a further extension of the Revolut super app.

With hundreds of thousands of holiday homes around the world, Revolut customers can book a stay on Homes and effortlessly earn up to 4% cashback, depending on the customer’s Revolut plan.

Revolut has announced that its accommodation booking feature ‘Stays’ has earned over £1.5 million in cashback for customers worldwide.

Homes complements Revolut’s travel services offering and continues to focus on products that address customers’ travel needs – including hotels, travel insurance and currency exchange.

Revolut has more than 20 million customers worldwide and believes it has the ability to challenge Airbnb – a company that reported four million hosts and six million listings in March – by taking some of its market share and adapting to changing travel trends and preferences.

Christopher Guttridge, General Manager of Lifestyle Products at Revolut, said: “We know that our customers’ travel needs are changing. Big or small, cheap or bourgeois, home or fancy hotel – our customers want to book all kinds of accommodation in one place.”

Homes is available in the UK and Europe and customers pay for a home through the Revolut app.

This also reflects the growing role that fintech is playing in the short-term rental sector and broader travel industries.

Through the online payments platform Stripe, users can now accept payments for direct bookings and bookings through major online travel agencies such as Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com, as well as collect additional changes such as security deposits.

Earlier this year, the company also partnered with all-in-one technology platform Jetstream Hospitality Solutions to power an automated payments platform for property managers operating in the space.
