Gas prices continue to fall – Oneida Dispatch

CENTRAL NEW YORK — According to a report from AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.41, three cents less than last week. A year ago, the price was $3.87. The New York State average is $3.54, two cents less than last Monday. A year ago, the New York State average was $3.92. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
Batavia – $3.58 (2 cents more than last Monday)
Buffalo – $3.56 (1 cent less than last Monday)
Elmira – $3.35 (2 cents less than last Monday)
Ithaca – $3.61 (2 cents less than last Monday)
Rochester – $3.59 (1 cent less than last Monday)
Rome – $3.63 (no change since last Monday)
Syracuse – $3.50 (3 cents less than last Monday)
Watertown – $3.55 (3 cents less than last Monday)

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline has dropped three cents since last week, back to June price levels. Summer is coming to an end, and so far, gasoline prices have changed little. Worries about Hurricane Debby are over now that the storm has passed. However, hurricane season still has a long way to go, so it’s too early to declare that pump prices have begun their usual fall slump. This morning, oil prices remain low — between $76 and $79 a barrel. The latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows that gas demand rose slightly, while production fell slightly. Subdued gasoline demand and stable oil prices may cause pump prices to continue to decline.

When it comes to electric vehicle charging, national and state average prices for Level 2 commercial electricity remain the same as a week ago. Today’s national average for a kilowatt-hour of electricity at a Level 2 commercial charging station is 34 cents. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.

For motorists who use diesel fuel, the national average price for diesel is $3.73, two cents less than last Monday. The New York average is $4.17, one cent less than last Monday.

To save fuel, drivers should plan their routes, avoid peak times such as rush hour, combine errands into one trip, and use cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the recommended level for the vehicle to reduce fuel consumption and remove all unnecessary and bulky items from the car, as accelerating a heavy vehicle requires more fuel.
