Poultry supplier Perdue is recalling 75,500 kilograms of chicken products nationwide because they may be contaminated with metal wire.

The recall came after some consumers reported finding metal wires in Perdue’s “ready-to-eat” chicken products, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported as a result of this recall.

“We determined that the material was a very thin metal wire that inadvertently entered the manufacturing process,” said Jeff Shaw, senior vice president of food safety and quality at Perdue. “Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to voluntarily recall all of these product packages.”

According to the company and FSIS, the recall affects three products:

  • Breaded chicken fillets from Perdue
  • Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets
  • Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets

The affected products, which were sold nationwide, bear the company number “P-33944” on the back of the packaging.

FSIS urges consumers not to consume the recalled products and advises them to throw them away or return them to where they were purchased.

Anyone with questions about the recall, including questions about a full refund of the purchase price of the recalled chicken, should call Perdue Customer Service at 1-866-866-3703.
